As orthodontic technology has advanced, it may be less common to have to wear a retainer after your braces come off. Dr. Sinna and our staff at Sinna Orthodontics will assess your teeth and mouth and determine if you will need a retainer.

A retainer is a molded piece of plastic with a wire that is usually used to set teeth in place after braces have been removed. Usually removable, retainers can often be lost or misplaced easily. Since the cost of replacing a retainer is not included in our professional fees, it may not only cost your teeth to lose your retainer, but could cost you monetarily! If you do however lose your retainer, it is extremely important to contact our office as soon as possible so we can make you a new retainer and prevent your teeth from continuing to move around.

It is important that you wear your retainer as directed. This will help prevent the teeth from further shifting. If the teeth move too far out of place, braces may again be needed to put them back into place. You don’t want to have to go through that again, so wear your retainer! Also, regularly brush and clean your retainer. Lots of germs can build up on this appliance that you are putting into your mouth on a daily basis if you do not properly care for your retainer!
