We at Sinna Orthodontics do everything in our power to make your orthodontic treatment go as smoothly as possible. However, not all courses of treatment are without problems. Some of the types of common problems that our office sees are listed below, though these are not the only types of issues that may arise. If you have questions or concerns, it is always best to call the office to discuss the situation with a member of our staff. We can then advise you on a course of action, whether it is a home remedy or scheduling an appointment at the office.

General Soreness
When you begin your treatment, you may feel general soreness in your mouth. Also, teeth may be tender to biting pressure for several days at a time. This type of pain can often be relieved by taking an appropriate dose of ibuprofen. Your lips, cheeks, and tongue may also become irritated for a period of time. However, over time they should toughen and become accustomed to the surface of the braces and other appliances. You can also place wax on the braces to lessen the irritation. We will show you how!

Loosening of Teeth
This is to be expected throughout treatment. Do not worry! It is normal. Teeth must loosen first so they can be moved. The teeth will again become rigidly fixed in their new, corrected positions.

Care of Appliances
To successfully complete the treatment plan, the patient must work together with Dr. Sinna and our team of professionals. The teeth and jaws can only move towards their corrected positions if the patient consistently wears rubber bands or other appliances as prescribed. Damaged appliances or failure to corporate with instructions will lengthen the treatment time.
